Meirion Thomas is Partner and founder of CM International in the UK.

Meirion has over 25 years experience in economic and business development where his expertise covers a range of interests including innovation, investment promotion, financing and sustainable development. Meirion's experience in private industry includes finance, venture capital and the automotive and steel sectors combined with his experience of regional economic development as an Executive Director of the Welsh Development Agency, gives him unparalleled expertise in business and economic development issues.

With CM International, Meirion has pursued a keen interest in CMI's competence in public policy work. Working with regional development agencies and government departments across the EU, Southern Africa and the USA Meirion and his team have wide ranging expertise in innovation, enterprise and economic development policy. At a Groupe level, Meirion has also pursued private sector interests in innovation management and strategy with several large private multi-nationals

Economist with extensive experience in innovation, strategy, economic development and programme development, management and evaluation.

Other activities
Meirion has always maintained a wide range of development interests and has taken strategic leadership roles in the following:
  • Main Board Director of Finance Wales plc
  • Chairman of the Cardiff-based specialist advisory group, the Cultural Enterprise Service Ltd.
  • Founder member of the Sustainable Development Forum for Wales.
  • Former board member of EURADA, the European regional development association
Alongside his professional interests, in 1994 Meirion established the 'Observatory for Innovation' at Cardiff Business School within Cardiff University in order to develop research in the fields of innovation, sustainable development and SME development.
Most recently Meirion's research has focused on foresight and futures with a key Interreg III project.
